Hyde United have been handed a huge boost ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 season, with manager Nick Spooner committing his future to the club.

Spooner has signed a new one-year contract which will keep him at Ewen Fields until the end of the 25/26 campaign.

This will be the 53-year-old's fourth full season in charge of The Tigers, having joined back in 2022.

Speaking on his renewal, Spooner told the club’s media team:

“It’s all about stability for me, I had players asking for commitment, so I committed as well.

“It was a very easy decision, it makes it easier for me to talk to players, both ones we want to stay and ones who we want to sign.''

Following the news, Hyde have moved quickly to secure their first signing of the summer, bringing in experienced goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin from Mickleover.

The 30-year-old came through the ranks at Millwall and has National League experience, having featured 27 times for Maidstone United between 2021 and 2023.

Mersin has also represented Turkey at youth team level, featuring once for the Under 18’s side.

Speaking following his arrival, Nick Spooner told the club’s media team:

‘’Yusuf is an experienced goalkeeper.

“He has lots of experience in the National League and it’s what we need as we have had a lot of loans or young keepers, like Callum last season, so we look forward to working with him.’’
