Salkeld steps down

Salkeld embraces Curzon Ashton player-manager Craig Mahon

Curzon Ashton have today announced the departure of Chairman Wayne Salkeld, who has stepped down from his role at the club.

Salkeld spent just over five years at the helm, guiding Curzon through the most successful period in their history.

In the 2022/23 season, The Nash recorded their highest ever points tally in the National League North, racking up 65 points across the campaign.

Curzon then went one better in the following season, smashing the previous record by ten and finishing on an impressive 75 points.

This was enough for them finish in 7th place and qualify for the National League North play-offs for the first time in the club's history, before narrowly losing their eliminator match to Chorley on penalties.

In a statement, Salkeld said:

“After lengthy discussions over the last few months with my family, I have decided to step down as Chairman of the club.

“This decision has not been an easy one but due to work commitments I can no longer give 100% to the role of Chairman.

“Over the last five seasons I feel so proud and honoured to guide the club with the board to our most successful time in the club history.

“I will carry on doing my duties as a Director, bringing my sponsors and contacts to the football club and support the new Chairman John Clayton in his new role and hopefully keep bringing more success to the football club.”

Current Director John Clayton will step up to the role of Chairman and Jimmy Newall will be remaining in his position of Vice-Chairman.
