Each year for the first week of the Derbyshire School holidays GRUFC host something very special.

A Rugby Summer Camp on Hargate Hill, Charlesworth, where the kids create their own playground of fun.

The three days are organised and ran by qualified rugby coaches & volunteers from the club with special guest coaches and special guest appearances from professional male and female players at Sale Sharks.

“This was the largest camp we’ve ran with 90 kids in attendance ranging from reception age to year 7” said Rob Jones the camp organiser.
Rob coaches professionally but volunteers to coach the U9s at Glossop.

“It really is a magic week aimed at child development, fun, friendships and belonging. Tickets sold out in under 24 hours this year without any advertising other than one club Facebook post! The camp is run by superb people who give up their time and expertise for their passion of supporting kids rugby in the area. It’s a privilege to be a part of it” continued Rob.

“The camp is tailored so it is age appropriate and ability appropriate, kids are challenged with different games with a rugby flavour and there are house games so younger kids get to hang with older kids. The support the older kids give the younger ones is a delight to see.

This year Sale Shark players Jean Luc de Preez and Elisabeth Shermer came over from Carrington to say hello to the kids who’s faces were a picture.

The following Q&A and autographs showed the kids passion for their heroes and the game.

The season starts again on Sunday the 1st September in Charlesworth, please come along and register your child, all ages are welcome.

Next years camp dates are now confirmed as 29/30/31st July. Save the dates!”
