Safeguarding breakfast for in-demand Roughyeds

Oldham RL Club's players are moving up in the world.

Promoted from Betfred League 1 to the Betfred Championship, they are attracting new sponsors and backers . . . and on Saturday after training players and backroom staff will have breakfast in the community with the Safeguard Group, a local firm based in Chadderton.

"For a club our size, which has just moved up from Betfred League 1 to the Championship, to receive an invitation like this is massive," said delighted head coach Matt Diskin.

"The lads are planning their Christmas party for later in the day and what better way to start off the day than this ?

"It goes without saying that we are all very grateful to Safeguard and very appreciative of their fantastic  invitation which will give the players an opportunity to spend a bit of time together after training and do some Christmas bonding.

"It also means that, as a squad and as a club, we can get out into the local community which I feel is a very important part of what we are about."

Players and staff will enjoy breakfast in Safeguard's new Lounge Cafe which was recently opened to the public at the Safeguard Group's Arkwright Street base on the Westwood Industrial Estate in Chadderton, OL9 9LZ.

It is proud of its local reputation as a market leader and it has also built a national profile through its commitment to delivering excellent service and value-for-money products.

Moreover, several members of senior management are steeped in rugby league, including Financial Operations Manager Jonathan Kelly, who has had a 28-year association with Oldham St Anne's.

Others on the management team also have direct links with the Green and Golds.

Said Jonathan: "Six of us have links with St Anne's and as a company we wanted to show our support for and our allegiance to the Roughyeds and to rugby league generally in Oldham.

"We were delighted to see them get promoted; we wish them all the best in the Championship; and we felt it would be great to invite them down to breakfast in our new cafe."

Oldham RLFC chairman Chris Hamilton said: "It will be great for the lads to take up this kind invitation from Safeguard.

"It's good for bonding and for forging links with the local community; and we are very appreciative of this great gesture by Safeguard."
