ROUND-UP: Tuesday night football results

Overall it wasn’t a great night for our teams across the borough, as all four senior sides in action lost.

Ashton United suffered heartbreak at Wincham Park as Witton Albion scored the only goal of the game in injury time through Cesaire Lingouba.

But the Robins put in a spirited display and had several good chances, while Lewis Walters looked promising on his debut as the winger played 57 minutes on the day he signed from Altrincham.

Hyde United were also beaten 1-0 at Scarborough Athletic as a fourth-minute goal from Chris Dawson proved the difference at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

But there was bigger disappointment for Stalybridge Celtic, who lost 3-0 at home to Stafford Rangers in the Premier Division.

Jed Davies opened the scoring for the visitors in the seventh minute at Bower Fold and Josh Green doubled their lead just before the break. Evan Garnett sealed a comfortable win just after the hour-mark.

Celtic’s misery was compounded when Scott Bakkor fired a penalty over the crossbar just before Stafford’s second goal.

Meanwhile, Droylsden were also knocked out of the FA Trophy at the second attempt, after a 3-1 defeat away to North West Division leaders Workington in their preliminary round replay.

Scott Allison opened the scoring in the 29th minute before Bloods defender Steve Rigby equalised shortly after the break. But two goals in the space of five minutes from Dave Symington and Liam Brockbank sent the hosts through to a first qualifying round tie against Brighouse Town, who won 2-1 at Tadcaster Albion in their replay.

Elsewhere, a Glossop North End XI drew 1-1 in a friendly at North West Counties First Division South outfit Wythenshawe Amateurs.

In the FA Youth Cup, Curzon Ashton’s Under-18s won 3-1 at Guiseley in their third qualifying round tie.
