Roger Tanner: Tributes Pour In For Greenfield Legend

Highly respected Saddleworth luminary Roger Tanner MBE. has died, reports Greenfield cricket club.

A tribute on the club’s social media site says: Roger Tanner MBE 1922 - 2022

“We’re truly sad to hear of the passing of the incomparable Roger Tanner MBE, Greenfield CC president since 1955 carrying on a family tradition for over a century!

“Roger was also president of the Saddleworth & District Cricket League for many years, founder of the Saddleworth Museum (1962) and Chairman of Saddleworth of Festival of Arts for more than 30 years.

“Arguably with the most famous bow tie in Saddleworth, Roger’s joie de vivre and superb repartee will be very sorely missed.

“A wonderful man who, along with his family, gave so much to his beloved Greenfield and Saddleworth community. We will forever been indebted to Roger for all he has done for Greenfield CC.”

In related news, Greenfield’s 3rd XI have won the Sunday Premier Cup.

The squad beat Heywood on Sunday.
