Robins through after replay

A goal in the first five minutes and another one six minutes from time were enough to see Ashton safely into the second qualifying round of this year's FA Cup and a home tie against Scarborough.

Mikey O'Neill and Luca Navarro were back in the Robins' starting line up and after Sean Newton had seen his free kick hit the wall the hosts moved ahead as a good move saw Luke Burke's pass send O'Neill down the right wing and he picked out Alex Byrne whose cross forced Jamie Sharman to concede an own goal.

On 11 minutes Navarro's low cross was spilled by Hugo Warhurst before he saved Navarro's next effort low down and five minutes later O'Neill shot straight at Warhurst after Sharman had cleared Byrne's cross straight to him. Will Tomlinson then got into the action bringing a tip over out of Warhurst following another Byrne cross and Mason Warren's snapshot for Hallam was deflected out for a corner which saw Ferguson's header held by Jordan Eastham.

On the half hour O'Neill threatened again as he forced a low save before firing the rebound wide and in added time Navarro's volley was held by Warhurst following approach play by O'Neill. The second period got off to a slow start with Darius Osei guiding Burke's inside pass wide from an offside position before Staniland's covering tackle beat Navarro to Osei's pass on the break.

Just past the hour mark a right foot cross from Josh Doherty saw O'Neill guide his header wide of the far post and a good move through midfield saw Byrne's cross blocked for a corner which went right across the goalmouth untouched. With 15 minutes left a through ball saw Eastham get away with a miskick with Ndlovu lurking and a move across the edge of the area ended with Staniland firing too high on his right side.

A forward pass then saw sub Jason Gilchrist move on to his right foot forcing a low save but with six minutes remaining Tomlinson picked out Byrne whose cross was converted by Gilchrist to send Ashton into the next round.
