Ashton United have added options in wide areas with the arrival of Matty Waters from National League North side Marine.
The 27-year-old was part of The Mariners side that won promotion from the NPL Premier Division last season and joins the Robins on an initial 28-day loan.
Capable of playing on either flank, as well as left back, the former Curzon Ashton man will add some much-needed versatility to Steve Cunningham’s squad.
Following his signing, Cunningham told the Reporter:
“I’ve worked with him before when I was at Curzon, he’s a top player and a top person, so I’m delighted we’ve brought him in.”
“He’s also able to play in two or three positions, which is massive, especially with the injuries we’ve got at the moment.”
Waters was thrown straight into the action last weekend, making his debut for the club in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with local rivals Hyde United.
Tuesday night saw Ashton United pass up on the chance to set up an all-Ashton Manchester Premier Cup Final, with Tameside neighbours Droylsden picking up a shock semi-final victory at Hurst Cross.
Following their loss at home to Real Madrid last week, knocking them out of the Champions League, Manchester City faced arguably a tougher test against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday.
