Right Said Fred: Talking Betting With BetFred Boss Fred Done

I’m still coming to terms with United’s bitterly disappointing defeat in the FA Cup quarter-final last weekend.

Not to take anything away from Leicester, who I thought were excellent and deserved winners on the day, but I thought Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked pretty lifeless for the entire 90 minutes.

It’s been a brutal season, and I wonder whether fatigue is really starting to come into play now.

Our squad depth has certainly improved, but it remains a long way off the likes of City and that is starting to show as we progress into the business end of the season.

I’ve stressed before how important I think it is for Ole to win a trophy this season, and it looks like we’re now putting all our eggs in the Europa League basket. 

I will admit I was puzzled by Ole’s team selection against the Foxes. I don’t quite understand the thought-process behind not starting our best player in Bruno Fernandes right before an international break?

However, as Ole said afterwards, we need to now focus on our remaining games in the other competitions.

I think I speak for all Reds when I say the upcoming international break is very much welcomed at this time, given we’ve had a couple of key injuries lately and with the squad looking fatigued.

Hopefully the little break will do us the world of good.

Meanwhile, I can’t wait for the return of the Betfred Super League this weekend!

After a long wait, top-flight rugby league returns to our television screens as champions St Helens face my hometown club Salford in the season opener on Friday night.

Betfred have Saints 5/2 joint-favourites with last year’s runners up Wigan to win the 2021 Grand Final – while Warrington are 7/1 shots.

Leeds Rhinos are 11/1 with Betfred ahead of Hull FC and Huddersfield Giants at 12/1 – while Catalans Dragons and Castleford Tigers are both 16/1.

My hometown club, who have had a mixed couple of years I think it’s fair to say, are as big as 55/1 ahead of Wakefield at 70/1 and Hull KR at 80/1.

Our rank outsiders at 150/1 are Leigh Centurions, and I’m excited to see how they get on in their first season back in the big time since 2017.

I’m hoping for and expecting another cracking season, and I just can’t wait for it all to get started on Friday!
