Right Said Fred: Talking Betting With Betfred Boss Fred Done

I still feel  a shiver down my spine 26 years after Frankie Dettori almost put me out of business.

This charismatic fella, who is every race fans favourite Italian, cost me £3.5 million when he broke all records with SEVEN winners at  Ascot one very special September day in 1996.

Now Dettori, aged 52 has decided the 2023 season will be his last he’ll be be taking me to the cleaners!

He’s been one of racing’s superstars and as a jockey up there with the best. Although the Magnificent 7 cost me millions, it was one of the best things to ever happen to racing in this country. I wish him all the best and no doubt he will still cost me a few quid in his final season.

Consequently we at Betfred have the following Frankie Specials up for grabs as I desperately try to get a pittance back from the millions he’s cost me during his illustrious career in the saddle.

For Dettori to ride a winner at a UK classic in 2023  is 3/1 with us and we are 5/2 he rides a Breeders Cup winner. Betfred are offering 3/1 that this Turin-born irreplaceable jockey who has done so much for the PR of the sport rides four or more winners back at Royal  Ascot....and 8/1that he wins next year’s Epsom Derby.

Back to his Magnificent Seven triumph we at Betfred took it in the chin and looked at the bigger picture of the effect this glorious achievement had on racing as a whole.

I’ve described that day as like a horror movie  but we bounced back rapidly increasing the number of shops...and I’m so pleased there was no whinging on my part with me sending champagne and cigars to the many big Magnificent Seven winners,  who cashed in with 200,000/1 seven fold accumulator bets. It was interesting that Frankie was determined to go out at the top and reportedly  compared himself at the weekend to Ronaldo’s demise at United and Portugal.

With one high profile name leaving his sport in 2023, another namely Gareth Southgate is staying on as England boss.

We were just so unlucky to go out of the World Cup in Qatar  to France in the quarter finals... and I’m chuffed the FA didn’t knee jerk but have  let Southgate go on as per his contract to Euro 2024.

The focus is going to switch very quickly indeed to topping Arsenal off their perch at the top of the Premier League.

United and City both have Carabao Cup fourth round ties this week before United are huge odds on favourites to beat Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on December 27 as the latest era without Ronaldo gets underway.

Meanwhile City will have all their World Cup players eager and ready for their visit to Leeds 24 hours later.

Betfred still have City 4/9 favourites to retain the title with Arsenal at 9/4. Next up are Liverpool and fast-improving Newcastle at 33/1.

Mighty Man United are priced at 50/1 to be champions once again  which puts us  ahead of 66/1 Spurs  - and Chelsea who are on the slide at 200/1.
