REPORT: Another defeat for injury-hit Droylsden

BetVictor North West Division: Droylsden 0-4 Workington

It was another night to forget at a wind and rain swept Butchers Arms, as Droylsden conceded four goals which sent visitors Workington to the top of the league.

Two first-half mistakes were costly as for the first half an hour, the Bloods had matched the promotion contenders.

Dave Pace's injury-hit team suffered an early blow, losing full-back Antione Clarke after just 12 minutes which forced the Bloods once again to reshape at the back.

Early chances were few and far between and a spate of early bookings in the difficult conditions disrupted any chance of a flowing game.

The visitors had the best opportunity earlier on. Symington, who was to be impressive all evening, was through on goal only to be denied by the legs of Wynne.

At the other end, Droylsden worked the ball around well but as has been the case for much of the season, failed to look threatening when it mattered in front of goal.

The deadlock was broken on 35 minutes, Droylsden’s defence failing to clear and leaving Symington to easily score.

The goal galvanised the visitors, Wynne forced to save superbly from a close range to deny Lonsdale.

With half time approaching, a terrible mistake by Domaine Rouse saw the visitors double their lead. Scott Ellison intercepting his free-kick on the half way line, and running to the edge of the area before superbly finishing over Wynne into the top corner.

Symington had a great chance to make it three just after the interval, but shot straight at Wynne.

On 55 minutes it was three, Jordan Little firing home from a corner after Wynne had turned a free kick around the post with his fingertips.

Substitute Malumo made it four 15 minutes later to wrap up another unhappy night at the Butchers Arms - the Bloods having conceded 14 goals in their last three home games without reply.
