Glossop North End have been handed a huge boost ahead of the upcoming NWCFL Premier Division season, with prolific forward Lewis Reilly committing his future to the club.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper following a stellar debut campaign last time out, which saw him net 23 times in all competitions.

Reilly joined The Hillmen last summer on an initial loan, before being recalled by parent club Bootle, only to rejoin Glossop weeks later upon the termination of his contract.

Following his renewal, Reilly told The Chronicle: “I’m excited about staying at Glossop, it’s a club that’s heading in the right direction with great people and great fans which makes it feel like home.

“I’m looking forward to the new season with some new faces who have fitted in very well and hopefully it can be a successful one.”

GNE boss Richard Brodie added: “I’m a firm believer that you’re only as good as your number nine.

“It’s no coincidence that our form dipped after Lewis was recalled - 23 goals in 32 games, you can’t replace that.

“I always say it’s alright having a good player, but you have to have a good person as well, and he’s top drawer.

“It’s big coup for us to have him stay until he goes travelling, there were a lot of clubs after him.

“It’s massive for the club and hopefully it will allow us to get a head start on other teams.”

Brodie’s side will also have a new man between the sticks next season, following the arrival of goalkeeper Harry Allen.

The 23-year-old will enter his second spell at the Asgard Engineering Stadium, following his loan move from Burnley back in 21/22.

The stopper was a key figure for fellow NWCFL Premier side Prestwich Heys last season, winning the league’s goalkeeper of the month award in March and helping the club stay in the division following a hard-fought relegation battle.

Elsewhere, The Hillmen have also retained tenacious midfielder Gabby Mooney-Muñoz, who will enter his second season with the club.

The Spaniard joined GNE midway through the last campaign, from fellow North West Counties side Prestwich Heys.
