Qadir smashes Droylsden CC to GMCL Division 1 title

Imran Qadir hit a superb 167 not out as Droylsden CC lifted the GMCL Division 1 title after dismantling relegation threatened Stretford.

Qadir walloped 26 boundaries during his knock, including 10 sixes, stemming a top order collapse that took the home side from 12-0 to 14-3.

Ali Azmat (33) and Joe Schofield (10) were the only other Droylsden batsmen to reach double figures in a mixed day at the crease, in which they reached 266/9 in their 50 overs.

Stretford lacked fluidity in their reply, and although wicket keeper Wil Foley struck 32 from as many balls, their tail offered little in the way of resistance.

Lewis Jarvis bowled a solid 3-18 from his 8 overs as Stretford capitulated to 98 all out.

At the other end of the table, Dukinfield registered a vital win in their battle against the drop by beating 2nd placed Swinton Moorside by two wickets.

Rameez Alam (59 not out) and ex-Stretford man Munir Khan (52) both hit half centuries for Dukinfield, with the former nursing a nervous tail past a rampant Ashan Fernando, who claimed 4-20 from his five overs.

Dukinfield travel to 3rd place United Stars next Saturday knowing a win will stave off relegation.
