Pupils stride out at cross country event

The Tameside Athletics Track was a hive of activity last weekend with school pupils striding out at the Tameside Primary School XC Championships.

Despite the tough conditions, runners from various schools put in some excellent performances in a bid to be selected to represent Tameside at the Cross Country Championships, which is taking place at Heaton Park on February 5.

This year both primary and secondary competition will be taking place on the same day,  with the course length approximately 2km, which will force runners to contend with five tarmac paths to cross during the race.

Such was the response to the event, East Cheshire Harriers are now hosting an open XC event for Under 9s and Under 11s on Sunday 13 March.

Following the event, East Cheshire Harriers’ twitter account posted the following: "Well what a fantastic Saturday…our superb juniors set the day off in the Tameside Primary XC Champs! Team ECH had a strong field of runners representing various schools. Congratulations to all runners & those selected to compete next week.”
