Pupils put on great performance at Cross Country Championships

Pupils braved the elements on Saturday morning whilst representing Team Tameside at the Cross Country Championships.

The event, which took place at Heaton Park, attracted the best runners from Tameside who qualified at the previous weekend's event at East Cheshire Harriers.

This year both primary and secondary competition took place on the same day, with runners taking part in the 2km route which include five tarmac paths.

Despite the awful conditions, which included swirling winds and heavy rain, the quality of running remained high. The girls' team took fourth spot, whilst the boys' team were rewarded with an eighth place finish.

Tameside coach Hayley Simpson, who organised and coordinated the previous weekend's event, was delighted with her runners' display.

Such has been the response to the running events, East Cheshire Harriers are now hosting an open Cross Country competition or Under 9s and Under 11s on Sunday 13 March.
