Preview: Whitby Town v Ashton United

Ashton United travel to the North East on Tuesday (21 February) night for their league match against Whitby Town.

The hosts have been in fine form of late, taking maximum points from their last three games in the league, one of these being a win against Warrington Rylands, a team who are above them in the table.

The same cannot be said for visitors Ashton United however, who find themselves stuck in somewhat of a rut, failing to win all of their last three matches. One of these matches included a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Wythenshawe Town in the semi-final of the Manchester Premier Cup.

One man the away side will have to be wary of is Whitby defender Harrison Beeden, especially when defending set-pieces. Despite his main role in the team being to stop opposition attacks, the centre-back has been quite an asset at the other end of the field lately, having scored two last minute winners for his side in the space of seven days, with both coming from corners.

The first, a side-footed effort from close range against Stalybridge Celtic two weeks ago, and the second, a towering header against Warrington Rylands last Saturday.

Ashton United do have threats of their own however, with forward Kielen Adams going through a purple patch at the moment. United’s number nine was awarded with the Ashton United player of the month award for January and has transferred his great form into February with a goal against Morpeth Town on the 4th.

The robins will hope he can increase his goalscoring tally against Whitby, which is sure to be a tough game for them. The visitors will be looking for revenge after the reverse fixture earlier this season, in which Whitby were the victors at Hurst Cross, winning the game 1-0.
