Preview: Kettering Town v Curzon Ashton

Tameside Stadium, Curzon Ashton

Curzon Ashton make the two-hour-long trip down to Northampton tonight (28 Feb) to face Kettering Town in the National League North.

The visitors have been in good form of late, winning four out of their last five, with the only loss coming last Saturday at home Alfreton Town (1-0).

The hosts have been in slightly less inspiring form, winning only one of their last five matches. This victory came in their last game, a 1-0 win at home to Brackley Town. Kettering have been struggling in terms of goals lately too, only scoring once in their last five outings. Three of these games have ended 0-0, with the other a 1-0 loss.

One man the home side will have to nullify if they are to have any chance of winning is Curzon forward Tom Peers. The forward has scored five goals in his last five matches, including a brace last Tuesday against Peterborough Sports, with this taking his goal tally for the season up to 13.

It’s not just the Curzon players who have been grabbing the headlines though, as manager Adam Lakeland was presented with the National League North manager of the week award last Wednesday for his contribution to the Nash’s fine form.

The poppies will be looking for revenge tonight after the reverse fixture, which was played back in August on game week four. A game in which Curzon Ashton were the victors, winning the game 1-0 on home soil after an early goal from Josh Hancock.
