Mossley thrill in FA Cup win at Eccleshill

Mossley will host Whitby Town in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup after beating Eccleshill United 3-1 in a replay last night.

After a flat performance at Seel Park on Saturday, the Lilywhites flew out of the traps in Bradford, with Mason Fawns scoring his first goal of the season after 10 minutes.

Alfie Belcher and Reece Webb-Foster came close to doubling their lead, before full-back Kacper Mialkowski danced his way into the Eccleshill box on the stroke of half-time, where his shot deflected past a stranded Ed Wilczinski.

David Fish’s side didn’t have everything their own way in the second half, though.

Despite continuing to apply pressure on the home goal, it was the Yorkshire side who scored on 68 minutes courtesy of substitute Matthias Britton.

However, Mossley surged again, with Remi Efunnuga securing tie with a superb turn and strike three minutes from time to open bhis account for the club.

“I thought we were much better today,” Fish told the club’s YouTube channel. “The first 25 minutes we moved the ball about really well and got into some good positions. Mason’s goal was a great strike and Reece had a good chance just after that.

“They grew into the game, then. I thought they asked a lot of questions and got their full-backs incredibly high, they were sort of playing a 2-4-4 and really pegged us back.

“A good goal from Remi finished things off, and you could see that at the end we were still chasing them down and working hard. It was much better all-around.”

The Lilywhites return to Northern Premier League (NPL) West action over the bank holiday weekend, facing Hanley Town at home on Saturday before making the short trip to Avro on Monday.

They take on Whitby of the NPL Premier in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round at Seel Park on Saturday August 31.
