Mossley rescue a point late on

Mossley came from behind to rescue a draw against opponents Clitheroe on Saturday (February 24), after Alfie Belcher’s late strike meant the points were shared at Seel Park.

The Lilywhites wasted no time in piling the pressure on the visitors, creating a chance in the very first minute of the game, with Justin Iwobi heading over from close range after Alfie Belcher's effort was parried into his path.

Iwobi was involved once again moments later when the forward was denied by a smart save from Hakan Burton in the Clitheroe goal, which kept out his header.

With little to report on for the remainder of the first half, it took until the 63rd minute of the game for the deadlock to be broken when a fantastic cross was turned in by forward Sefton Gonzalez to give visitors Clitheroe the lead.

As time ticked away and it looked as though Mossley would be on the losing side, up popped Alfie Belcher with a stunning effort which nestled into the bottom corner and rescued a point for David Fish’s men with just two minutes remaining.

The Lilywhites could have even nicked it in stoppage time when Jamal Crawford’s effort was deflected inches wide of the post, but in the end, the points were shared.

The win leaves Mossley in 14th place in the Northern Premier League West, ahead of their away trip to Bootle this weekend.
