Mossley progress to next round of FA Cup

Seel Park, Mossley AFC

Mossley AFC made it through to the next round of the FA Cup last Saturday, with arguably the most impressive win of the round, a 4-0 away win over Bamber Bridge.

Hosts Bamber Bridge play their football in the league above Mossley, and were very much favourites going into the tie, but David Fish’s men managed to defy the odds and thrashed the team from Preston in their own back yard.

Mossley took the lead after just eight minutes, with Captain Andrew Keogh’s stunning acrobatic effort finding the top corner. Their lead was doubled minutes later when Jack Banister smashed the ball home from close range and the Lilywhites went into half time leading by two goals to nil.

The visitors added a third just after the restart through Eden Bailey before Callum Leigh put the icing on the cake with a sublime free-kick which kissed the underside off the bar on its way in.

A fantastic win for Mossley, which takes them through to the second qualifying round of the competition where they will host either Widnes or Emley, on 16 September.
