Mossley 10k returns

The 12th edition of the annual Mossley 10k saw a familiar face prevail.  

Over 400 runners tackled the iconic route, which starts and ends at Seel Park, the home of Mossley AFC. 

In the men’s section, 2025 winner Michael Mannings took the crown once again, shaving 30 seconds off last year’s time and romping to victory in a lightning quick 33 minutes and eight seconds. 

Elsewhere, East Cheshire Harriers’ Steven Broadbent went one better than last year’s third place finish, beating Mark Matthews to the runner-up spot by just seven seconds. 

Meanwhile, in the women’s, Katie Kay fell short of victory despite recording a time of 42:23, which was enough for club teammate Hayley Simpson to take the win last year. 

The East Cheshire Harrier was beaten by a blistering run from Saddleworth Runners’ Martha Barker, who crossed the line in 37 minutes and 19 seconds. 

Kay – who took the crown in the V45 category – was followed in by Theadora Brophy, who claimed third overall. 

First to the finish in the V55 category was Royton Road Runners’ Gail Shaw, while Mossley Running Club’s Lesley Smith took the win for the V65’s. 

There was more success for Royton Road Runners in the men’s section, as James Henderson and Barry Greaves were first across the line in the V45 and V65 categories respectively. 

Finally, Tim Shanker of Manchester YMCA Harriers was victorious in the men’s V55 category.
