Morgan shines as Mossley return to winning ways

BetVictor North West: Mossley 2-0 Workington

Mossley gave their most complete performance of the season so far as they deservedly took the points against previously unbeaten League leaders Workington at Seel Park on Saturday.

There were several changes from the team beaten at strugglers Pickering on Tuesday as Ben Richardson, Dec Evans, Jes Uchegbulam and Paul Marshall all returned to the starting line up while new signing James Baillie was given his debut on the right side of midfield.

The Lilywhites opened on the front foot as the visitors struggled to settle and the home side took the lead in the 11th minute. Adam Morgan's pass released Uchegbulam on the left and his mazy dribble took him past two defenders in a tight space before he passed low across the face of goal for James Baillie to bundle home a debut goal from close range.

Chances were at a premium as both sides defended strongly but Josh Ollerenshaw had his gloves warmed by a blistering David Symington shot as Workington found an opening. At the other end Workington keeper Mitchell did well to keep out Adam Morgan's effort.

The game had been held up for several minutes while Dieter Downey and Ben Richardson received treatment and it worked in Mossley's favour as with five minutes of first half stoppage time played Uchegbulam brilliantly held up Marshall's pass and his lay off set up Adam Morgan, who, spotting Mitchell off his line, hit a first time shot that dipped over the stranded keeper and into the empty net from fully 40 yards out to double the Lilywhites advantage.

The second half saw very little goalmouth incident as Workington enjoyed the lions share of possession but found Mossley's defensive unit impenetrable and on the couple of occasions they did get a sight at goal Ollerenshaw was equal to the task as Mossley superbly closed the game out to beat the League leaders four days after losing to the bottom markers.
