Managerless Hyde United followed up Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Hebburn Town with a 2-1 home defeat to Leek Town on Tuesday night.
Following Nick Spooner’s shock resignation on Sunday, first team captain Jack Redshaw took temporary charge of the side, along with goalkeeper coach Chris Shaw, and former player Harry Bunn.
Jordan Hodkin and Jack Griffiths put the visitors two up early on, and despite Charlie Frost opening his Hyde account midway through the second half, the Tigers were unable to muster a late fightback.
Hyde’s attention turns to the FA Cup this weekend as they host fellow NPL Premier side Whitby Town in the Second Qualifying Round.
Elsewhere, Jason Gilchrist’s stoppage time header helped Ashton United rescue a point against Bamber Bridge.
After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead on 49 minutes through former Hyde United forward Ewan Bange, who finished off a swift counter attack led by ex-Curzon midfielder Jamie Allen.
Just as the Robins looked down and out, up popped Gilchrist with a 95th minute equaliser to save their blushes, heading home Louis White’s cross and ensuring the points were shared.
Much like Hyde United, Steve Cunningham’s side are in FA Cup action this Saturday, hosting National League North side Scarborough Athletic.
Finally, Glossop North End put in a spirited performance away to league leaders Padiham, but ultimately came away empty handed.
Brodie’s side had taken the lead initially through Dylan Fitzgerald and had a chance to double their advantage when Jacques Etia was brought down inside the penalty area.
The ever-reliable Lee Rick stepped up but saw his penalty clip the post and go behind.
Jacob Hebda would level things 10 minutes into the second half, and as time ticked away, GNE looked set to pick up a hard-earned point.
The hosts had other ideas though, with two late goals condemning the Hillmen to their fifth straight defeat.
“I thought we were terrific,” GNE boss Richard Brodie revealed at full-time.
“Saturday was awful. I questioned some of the players, their character, work rate, desire, but honestly for 90 minutes today, I couldn’t question any of that.
“We’ve outplayed them for large parts, especially in the first half, but luck just isn’t on our side at the moment.”
Brodie’s men will be hoping to turn around their fortunes this Saturday as they travel to strugglers Litherland REMYCA.
