New Glossop North End boss Ashley Connor got his tenure off to a flying start on Tuesday night, easing into the third round of the Derbyshire Senior cup after a 5-0 thrashing of 10-man Shirebrook Town.
Visitors GNE started brightly, capitalising on their extra man after Brandon Clarke was shown a straight red card inside eight minutes for a challenge on Gabby Mooney-Munoz.
The Hillmen found themselves three up at the break thanks to a brace from Adam Ouerghi, and a header from Jordan Schofield.
Jacques Etia then found a brace of his own late on to make it five and cap off a resounding victory.
Elsewhere, Mossley made it through to the first round of the Manchester Premier Cup after a 2-0 win over local rivals Avro.
After a goalless first half, super sub Joe Berks slotted home the opener 15 minutes from time, sliding past former Curzon goalkeeper Cam Mason just 60 seconds after coming onto the pitch.
The forward was involved again moments later, turning provider for Gee Baltazar, who picked the ball up before driving at the Ro defence and curling into the top corner to ensure the Lilywhites would progress.
Alex Craddock’s side’s reward for is a trip to Wythenshawe in the next round, which will take place later this month.
“We’ve failed to progress in this competition over the past couple of years, and I said to the lads before the game, it’s the only winnable cup we’re playing all season, so why not try your hardest to go on and win it,” said a satisfied Craddock following the win.
“It was a good performance, and it was good to keep the momentum up as well.”
Finally, Adam Barton’s 89th minute strike earned Curzon Ashton a point against Spennymoor Town, moving them into the National League North play-off spots.
The Nash got off to a flying start against their County Durham based opposition, with skipper Jimmy Spencer heading the hosts in front after just six minutes, before Ethan Robson levelled the scoring 10 minutes before the break.
Spennymoor then went ahead 16 minutes from time, with veteran striker Glen Taylor making no mistake from the spot after a late challenge from Adam Barton.
But Barton would atone for his error with just a minute a minute left on the clock, firing home from a corner to ensure the points were shared.
"I think the number of games we've played recently maybe caught up with us today," said Curzon boss Mark Bradshaw following the draw.
"We started well, but there were a few off the pace tonight, making errors that they haven't made in recent weeks.
But we showed character. When the energy is lacking, we've got to come through it, and we got the equaliser.
"On the whole it's a good point, but like Saturday, I'm disappointed we didn't score a few more goals with the chances we had."
