Match Report: Trafford MV 41-38 Glossop RUFC

It looked like it was going to be a torrid afternoon for the Hillmen, as MV quickly racked up three unanswered tries to storm in front at 21-0.

Glossop eventually replied through young winger Will Thompson after excellent handling from flyhalf Tom Dearnaley  and stand in Skipper Sam Gibson. Dearnaley also converted to reduce the score to 21-7.

Trafford then kicked a penalty to extend their lead to 24-7. They then found an easy route through the Glossop midfield to dot down again and convert to lead 31-7. MV didn’t take their foot off of the pedal and got their bonus point try, which was converted to see them comfortably lead 38-7.

The Hillmen reduced the score just before the break with a try of their own, converted sweetly by Dearnaley to reduce the score to 38-14.

In what was to become a classic game of two halves, Glossop came storming out and centre Dylan Johnston galloped over to reduce the score further to 38-19.

Coach Brammer’s men then got another converted try to set panic in the home team, when Jon Tennant broke from inside his own half and went all the way for the try of the match and add  their own bonus point try again converted by Dearnaley to close in at 38-26. I

n a sign of the closeness of the game, MV then took an easy penalty to push ahead at 41-26. Glossop wouldn’t lay down though and powerhouse back Greg Bonsor, scattered defenders aside for a fantastic try and the lead for Trafford was now only 41-33.

Glossop still weren’t finished though and scrumhalf Tennant got himself another try to leave a final score of 41-38 to see the home side breathe a collective sigh of relief as time eventually ran out on a plucky Glossop effort.
