Match Report: Mossley 1-1 1874 Northwich

Mossley were just minutes away from their first win of 2024 at the weekend, but a late goal from visitors Northwich meant they had to settle for a point.

New signing Jamal Crawford made his home debut for the Lilywhites against his former club, and was involved from the start, going close to scoring after just six minutes but he was denied by some smart defending from the visitors.

The home side then had the ball in the net ten minutes later, only for the goal to be chalked off for an offside in the build-up.

The deadlock was finally broken on 24 minutes when Jack Banister’s low cross was powered home by the onrushing Ben Darby.

Mossley could and probably should have gone into the break leading by two or three, but a couple of fantastic saves from Matty Wonnacott in the Northwich goal kept the score at 1-0.

David Fish’s men began the second half like they ended the first, very much on the front foot, with Reece Webb-Foster forcing yet another save from Wonnacott who tipped the ball around the post and out for a corner.

The shot-stopper was in action once again moments later, this time to deny new signing Jamal Crawford from close range.

The Lilywhites were made to pay for these missed chances just seven minutes from time when the visitors found an equaliser through Oliver McFadyen, who fired the ball into the corner from range to draw his side level.

The draw means Mossley have slipped down to 16^th in the table, just six points above the relegation zone.

Up next for them this weekend is a home match against Nantwich Town, who they can leapfrog in the table with a win.
