Match Report: Marine 1-4 Hyde United

Following a successful Christmas period for Hyde this was the last of five games against potential play off rivals.

In the early knockings of the game Hyde did well to keep the ball and play at their tempo as Marine allowed them to dictate the game. The first real chance of the contest fell to Josh Doherty on the edge of the Mariners box and the full back struck it with some aplomb past Luke Hutchinson inside 15 minutes. The Tigers' possession and pressure continued however they were happy t wait until an opportunity presented itself to really go for a second. Just past the half hour mark that opportunity came, some neat footwork from Harry Bunn meant he was able to slip Harry Ditchfield through down the right hand side. A combination of an unbelievable ball to the back post and poor marking meant that Jack Redshaw was able to volley home uncontested from the edge of the six yard box. Only two minutes later Hyde found themselves in again with Will Russdown the middle, exceptional play from him to keep the ball whilst under pressure meant that he could play Redshaw through into the box. With brilliant footwork Redshaw beat his man and slotted the ball through Hutchinson’s legs to put the Tigers three goals to the good. However Marine were always going to have a spell of pressure and they did grow into the second period. Ten minutes into the second half they had a strong penalty appeal when the ball struck the arm of Shakeal Jones-Griffiths but the referee said no, much to the Marine fans displeasure. The pressure continued from the Lillywhites but it seemed as though it wasn’t going to drop for them inside the box. Until former Tiger Manasse Mampala came off the bench and scored with his first touch. A corner from the right hand side found the head of Jonathan Spittle, a good stop by the feet of, debutant goalkeeper, Jordan Eastman kept his effort out however Mampala was on hand to tap home into an empty net with 18 minutes to go. What followed was a wave of Marine chances, two brilliant saves by Eastman and a crucial block by goalscorer Doherty meant the Tigers kept the two goal cushion in tact. Four minutes from time Hyde broke away with Redshaw down the right hand side, seeing the run of substitute Matt Fearnley he played the ball through and Fearnley finished past Hutchinson to ensure the three points went back to Tameside.
