Match Report: Glossop North End 2-1 Longridge Town

Glossop North End got back to winning ways after their defeat at the weekend with a 2-1 win at home to Longridge Town on Tuesday (December 19).

The Hillmen made a couple of changes to their squad from Saturday’s (December 16) defeat to Skelmersdale United, with Tom Lawless coming into the starting 11 for his first start, and Mark Haslam rejoining the squad after being out injured.

After a relatively uneventful first half an hour, the match was sprung into life when Glossop were awarded a penalty in the 31st minute, which was dispatched expertly by Lee Rick who swept the ball into the bottom left corner to give his side the lead.

The hosts were then dealt a huge blow when goal scorer Rick was forced off just before half time through injury. He was replaced by Zeki Tutuncu.

North End then had the ball in the next for a second time early in the second half, only for celebrations to be cut short by the linesman’s flag.

The tide then turned moments later when visitors Longridge found an equalizer from a corner, with one of their only chances of the evening.

Despite the setback, the Hillmen continued to push for a winner, and with 15 minutes remaining they found that all-important goal, with Jacques Etia firing the ball home from close range to steal all three points for his side.

A much-needed win for Richard Brodie’s men, which lifts them up to 20th in the table ahead of their away trip to Charnock Richard on Saturday (December 23).
