Glossop North End got back to winning ways on Tuesday (December 12) with a 1-0 win over Ashbourne in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

The Hillmen were finally back in action after a number of postponed matches meant they had not played since November 25, in a 1-1 draw away to Wythenshawe Town.

North End lined up with a much-changed side from their last time out, giving home debuts to new signings Lee Rick, Abdul Djalo and Joel Ankers. Richard Brodie also brought in winger Zeki Tutuncu for his first start.

GNE started the game brightly, going close to opening the scoring fifteen minutes in when Joel Ankers’ header flew just wide of the post.

The home side then had the chance to go ahead just before the half-hour mark when they were awarded a penalty after forward Jacques Etia was brought down inside the box. This chance was spurned though, as the penalty was blazed way over the crossbar.

GNE then atoned for the miss just minutes later when Jacques Etia tapped the ball home after it rebounded back off the post and into his path.

North End started the second half as they did the first, going close to doubling their lead early on through Joel Ankers who sent his shot just wide from the corner.

After handing home debuts to three players from the off, Richard Brodie then gave Tom Lawless and Bobby Bjork their first appearances at The Asgard Engineering Stadium with both players coming on as substitutes just before the end.

The last action of the 90 was when the hosts came close to doubling the lead in the closing stages when Harry Freedman’s back post header cannoned back out of the post.

GNE managed to hold onto their slender one-goal lead and ensured their place in the next round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Another home match awaits The Hillmen in the league when they welcome Skelmersdale to The Asgard Engineering Stadium on Saturday (December 16).
