Match Report: Droylsden 3-0 Cammell Laird 1907 FC

Droylsden FC responded well following two disappointing defeats with an emphatic 3-0 win over Cammell Laird.

It’s the second win of the season for the Bloods, both of which coming at home.

The match started similarly to their previous outing with Droylsden taking the lead in the first half. Rhys Webb slotted home following some confusion between the Cammell Laird defenders.

But unlike against Cheadle Heath Nomads, Droylsden was able to hold onto their lead and five minutes from time two of their substitutes combined to double the home side’s advantage. Daniel Burgess providing the assist for Nellson Van.

And deep into stoppage time, Van became the provider for Droylsden’s third, squaring the ball for George West to net his third goal of the campaign.

Manager Dave Pace stated his players lacked fitness and lost control of the game against Cheadle Heath. Adding that he had learnt much about his side following that result and was ultimately delighted with the win against Cammell Laird

It’s their first victory since opening day against Abbey Hulton and was exactly the response Droylsden supporters would be hoping for after conceding ten goals in two games. The Bloods sit 15th in the league table but have the chance to quickly climb up should they win their games in hand over other teams.

A big boost of confidence for Droylsden who next take on Wakefield AFC in the FA Vase before a trip to Alsager Town back in the league.
