Match Report: Droylsden 2-2 Ashville

Butchers Arms Ground, Droylsden FC

Droylsden was held to a 2-2 draw against Ashville on Tuesday night, a tough result to take considering they were two goals up.

A disappointing draw that feels more like a loss for the Bloods who were in control for much of the game.

Dave Pace’s side was beaten 6-1 away in the reverse fixture and it was clear to see how far they’ve progressed since then. The much-changed side took a two-goal advantage in the first half, thanks to a sweet left-footed strike from Caelen Kilheeney and an Elvis Amoakwa header.

The home side looked to be cruising until the 73rd minute when Droylsden’s goalkeeper Morgan Piper got caught in possession inside his six-yard box, Ben Greenop providing the goal for the visitors.

Then nine minutes later, a failed clearance from Droylsden only reached an Ashville player, who whipped in a cross from the right for Peter Morgan to head home. The visitors were clinical on the night, finishing both big chances in the second half.

For Droylsden, it was frustrating as they caused their own problems and should have won the match based on their performance. It’s a lesson for Dave Pace’s side to learn from as they continue to strive for improvement.

This result came after Saturday’s 5-3 win against Longridge Town, a result that sees Droylsden progress into the final eight of the Macron Cup
