Match Report: Droylsden 1-0 Stockport Georgians

Droylsden booked their place in the semi-final of the Edward Case Cup following a 1-0 win over Stockport Georgians on Saturday afternoon.

The two clubs were no strangers to one another going into this game, having already played each other three times this season and once in pre-season. Droylsden had won 1-0 in their most recent fixture, whereas Georgians had won the other two.

The Bloods started on top, but it was Georgians who had the best chance to open the scoring, as Nathan Lee rounded keeper Jordan Hadlow but the former could not convert the open goal, albeit from a tight angle.

The first and only goal came in the 27th minute from a Droylsden corner, as Stockport’s keeper palmed the ball into the path of Rio Pemberton who prodded the ball home from within the six-yard box.

Georgians did put the ball in the back of the net, but Adam Dahou’s goal was ruled out following an offside. And despite continuing to search for an equaliser, the visitors were unable to find a response at the Butchers Arms Ground.

As a result, Dave Pace’s side will now travel to the Jim Fowler Memorial Ground to face Euxton Villa FC. The team from Chorley are currently pushing for promotion in the First Division North of the North West Counties Football League.
