Match Report: Curzon Ashton 2-0 Wythenshawe Town

Curzon Ashton made it through to the Semi-Final of the Frank Hannah Manchester Premier Cup on Tuesday (January 30), after defeating Wythenshawe Town at the Tameside Stadium.

The Nash started the game brightly, creating a couple of chances in quick succession, the first a side-footed effort from just outside the box from Rhys Hughes which was dealt with well by Greg Hall in the Wythenshawe goal.

Their next opportunity came when Will Hayhurst cut the ball back to the edge of the box towards Jamie Allen, who worked the ball onto his right foot and saw his effort deflect just wide of the right-hand post.

After a couple of early scares, visitors Wythenshawe began to grow into the game, creating a few golden opportunities of their own.

The first, a left-footed shot from substitute Kuda Chingwaro which was cleared off the line brilliantly by Curzon midfielder Alex Kenyon.

The second, a long-range strike from Rodney Ajayi, which was tipped round the post by Curzon shot stopper Cameron Mason.

Mason was in action once again early in the second half, palming away Severino’s left-footed effort that looked destined for the near post.

It took Curzon until just past the hour mark to finally break the deadlock, with Jamie Allen stroking the ball home after a cutback from Adam Barton to give his side the lead.

Then, with just ten minutes to go, the match was put beyond all reasonable doubt when Hayden Campbell showed his quality as he curled the ball into the top right corner from just outside the area to seal his side's place in the next round.

An away tie to nearby Avro awaits Craig Mahon’s side in the Semi-Final.
