Match Report: Brocton 1-2 Droylsden FC

Droylsden delivered a statement win on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Brocton.

This was Brocton’s third loss of the season with the Bloods coming from behind to beat the league leaders, keeping them firmly in the race for promotion.

The Staffordshire side went into the game eleven points clear at the top of the table and after eleven minutes it looked like they would extend that. A dummy run from a Brocton forward allowed Regan Smith to fire a left-footed strike past Jordan Hadlow in goal.

Brocton continued to create opportunities, with Hadlow producing some excellent saves throughout the first half to prevent the hosts from doubling their lead and keep his side in the game.

Droylsden were still dangerous in attack and within eight minutes of the restart, they were back level. Nellson Van, who had a goal disallowed in the first half for offside, scored the equaliser and his 10th of the season.

The Bloods were the much better side throughout the second half and their dominance was rewarded in the 78th minute. A counterattack following a Brocton freekick led to Fuad Kasali putting Droylsden 2-1 in front.

Dave Pace’s side held out for the remainder of the match and even went close to adding a third, but Elliot Fenton’s effort went just wide.

This victory leaves Droylsden two points outside the promotion places with games in hand and after two successive league defeats, a win of this magnitude was certainly needed.

The Bloods next take on Stockport Georgians in the Quarter Final of the Edward Case Cup.
