Match Report: Abbey Hulton United 3-1 Droylsden FC

Droylsden’s run of eight unbeaten in the league came to an end at the weekend as they lost 3-1 to fellow promotion pushers Abbey Hulton United.

A tough day for the Bloods who missed out on the opportunity to move into the play-off places.

It started great for Droylsden, George West getting on the end of Joe Neild’s cross before a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner. It’s goal number 30 for West this season, making him the joint-top scorer in the division.

However, the home side responded on the stroke of halftime, an unfortunate moment for Morgan Piper in goal who dropped the ball from a cross, before being finished by Harry Griffiths.

Then ten minutes into the second half Abbey Hulton took the lead, their skipper Matthew Ward finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

As always, the Bloods pushed and tried to find a way back into the contest but were unable to find the equaliser. And deep into stoppage time, Abbey Hulton scored a third through Brad Wilson

Considering Droylsden’s incredible run of form, this loss isn’t of major concern, but they’ll be hoping to bounce back this Saturday away to Sandbach United. In the reverse fixture, Droylsden lost 3-0, however the Bloods are a much different side since that defeat.
