Match Report: Abbey Hey 3-1 Droylsden FC

It was another defeat in the NWCFL for Droylsden, this time coming to Abbey Hey at the Abbey Stadium.

Despite having chances, the Bloods were unable to apply the finishing touch to get anything from the game.

Abbey Hey took the lead after 15 minutes following a corner and only three minutes later, they doubled their lead after an effort from past the halfway line looped over Morgan Piper in goal.

Droylsden responded instantly, some neat build-up down the left led to George West squaring the ball to Toby Green to score his fourth goal of the season.

However, it was Abbey Hey who struck next with a goal in the second half. Droylsden had seen much of the ball up to this point but was unable to profit from their superiority in possession.

This result leaves the Bloods in 16th place, just above the relegation zone, although they do still have several games in hand over the opposition close to them in the league table.

Droylsden does have the opportunity to enact revenge on Abbey Hey as they face one another on Tuesday in the Macron Cup – which hasn’t been played at the time of writing.

Then on Saturday, it’s another cup tie, this time away to Stockport Georgians in the FA Vase.
