Match Preview: Warrington Rylands v Ashton United

Gorsley Lane, the home of Warrington Rylands

Ashton United are set to travel to Gorsley Lane for a Tuesday night fixture against Warrington Rylands.

The Robins go into the game after an opening day 2-2 draw against Blyth Spartans. Manager Steve Cunningham was left frustrated by his team’s performance during the game.

In a fiery post-match interview, Cunningham expressed his disappointment as he felt that his team deserved the three points. “I don’t mean to sound disrespectful to Blyth, but their players, their fans, their management know that they’ve got away with one there. We should have had double figures."

Ashton started the game well, but it was the Spartans who opened the scoring. The Robins responded well and continued asserting dominance with second half goals from Jason Gilchrist and Darius Osei. However, the visitors scored an equaliser in the 85th minute through Michael Wood.

Ashton looked like the team that would walk away with the three points as they made a lot of attacking plays to put pressure on Blyth’s defence. However, their poor finishing denied them the chances, leading to the visitors walking away with a point.

The Robins’ opponents on Tuesday are a Rylands side that come into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat on opening day at newly-promoted Hebburn Town.
