Chapel-en-le-Frith High School honoured their sporting stars with an inaugural presentation to celebrate their fantastic achievements.

Students and their families were welcomed into the school on Thursday (10 November) to recognise the annual achievements of upcoming superstars.

Head of PE, Pete Henshall, opened the evening, thanking guests and those who go above and beyond in sport within the school to support the wide range of extracurricular on offer.

A highlight reel was presented, documenting sporting endeavours. Then, a special guest was welcomed to the stage, the wonderful John O’Shea.

With over 250 appearances for Manchester United, over 220 for Sunderland and 118 international caps, Chapel High School were beyond excited to welcome John to the ceremony.

John spoke at the evening, detailing his career before passing on some invaluable advice to the young sporting stars. He also mentioned the role that Sir Alex Ferguson played in developing him to not only become an incredible player, but a great person.

The awards kicked off with ‘Most Improved’ and ‘Player of the Year’ in a range of sports including football, netball, cricket, athletics, and cross country. Students in Year 10 were awarded ‘colours’ in certain sports for their attitude to sport over the last three years.

The evening closed with individual awards where Dylan Moore and Livvi Phipps each won ‘Sportsperson of the Year’.

Sporty siblings Flossie and Campbell Johnson won the ‘Robert Drabble Sports Personality of the Year’ for Key Stage 3, before Tom Pollard and Eva Berry won for Key Stage 4.

‘Sporting Recognition’, sponsored by Nestle Waters, was given to Peter Berriman of Year 8.

The ‘Street Crane Team of the Year’ was awarded to the Inter Girl’s Cross Country team, who competed in the national finals of the ESSA Cross Country Cup.

Finally, the ‘Outstanding Contribution to School Sport’ was given to Ben Pheasey for his overall impact on sport during his time at Chapel.

The awards evening was a huge success for students, family and staff alike. Chapel High commit time and dedication to offer great levels of sport for all pupils, gifting them opportunities that will last a lifetime.
