Local volunteer scoops top award

A Glossop resident has been recognised for her outstanding commitment to football at the Derbyshire County FA Grassroots Awards.

Eva McFarlane, who volunteers at Glossop North End Community Club, scooped the Young Volunteer of the year award at the ceremony, which took place earlier this month.

Eva first joined the club aged just seven, starting in the Under-9’s team before stepping into coaching and refereeing roles - leading sessions at Wildcats and coaching the Under-9 Girls side, who have flourished under her guidance.

Alongside her coaching, she continues to referee, play for the Under-18s, and support the club wherever she can.

The Glossopdale student says she is proud to win the award and hopes that her love for football will help inspire others.

Chairman of Glossop North End Community Club, Ben Mills, commented:

“I remember Eva joining many years ago and enjoying playing over in Oldham in the North Manchester Girls League on some cold mornings.

“She has developed into a fantastic player, coach, referee, and volunteer at the club, and has embraced all the opportunities Glossop North End Community Club has to offer.

“It was wonderful to see this celebrated at the Derbyshire County FA Grassroots Awards and she should be very proud of what she has achieved — there is so much more to come.

“At Glossop North End Community Club, we believe that if you can see it, you can be it — and Eva is the perfect example of that.

“She is a brilliant role model for other young girls and players at the club, showing that dedication, passion, and positivity can create real opportunities in the game.”
