Local kickboxers offered the chance to compete on a global stage

Heather on her deserved podium.

Two local kickboxers have achieved impressive accolades and will be representing their country at a global competition.

Kelly Buxton trains exceptional athletes at Evolution Martial Arts in Hadfield. With a huge passion for the sport, she aims to share her love with the next generation.

One of her talented students happens to be her 13-year-old daughter, Madison Buxton, who has been training in the art of kickboxing for 9 years.

Another star student at the club is 27-year-old Heather Wheal who has been mastering her craft for 17 years. Both women have proven to be incredibly talented and continue to show how hard they work.

On March 20, the team headed down to Worksop to compete in the WKKC National Championships. This event gathers the most exceptional athletes across the country and highlights those that stand out among the rest.

Both Madison and Heather returned from this competition as double gold medallists, earning them a place on Team England for the World Championships in October.

Speaking on her pride, Kelly said, “the World Championships are held in Dublin this year. It’s a fantastic honour for them to represent their country and our club.

“The girls always train regularly and, in the run, up to the Championships they will endure a tough training camp.”

Madison has previously competed for the England team on four occasions, winning bronze and silver medals. Heather has competed twice and has been given the prestigious title of World Champion as well as a World silver medallist.

“I won the World Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019 so it runs in the family for us. Madison trains super hard six days a week and attends another club in Bolton.

“She receives additional training under the watchful eye of Jamie Goulding and Lee Smith of Goulding’s Martial Arts,” Kelly said.

Evolution Martial Arts have been attending the National Championships since they started in 2014, they have had participants make it onto the England Team at every one held.

The club certainly work extremely hard and will now be doing all they can to ensure they are best prepared for October.
