Local athletes to compete at prestigious competition

A dance and cheer academy from Tameside are set to represent the borough on a world stage.

Tycoons Allstars will be jetting off to Portugal this summer to take part in the prestigious European Summit.

A total of 33 athletes will make the trip to Lisbon, with Tycoons’ under 12’s and under 16’s hip-hop teams both travelling to the capital in search of silverware.

The Stalybridge-based club will be looking to excel on foreign soil once again after their stellar performance at the 2025 Nfinity Finals in Florida, where six of their seven teams came away with the top prize.

Tycoons qualified for this year’s event back in June, thanks to their success at Birmingham’s Legacy competition, and discovered their qualification in nail-biting circumstances:

“We were the very last name to be called out,” revealed club owner Vanessa Murphy-Wood.

“At first, I was thinking, I’m going to have to comfort all the kids and tell them how well they’ve done, but luckily, we got called out. Everyone was just running around the gym screaming.

“They worked so hard, and had such a great year, so it was amazing for them to close the season on a really high note.”

As well as qualifying for the European Summit, the club are also hoping to secure a bid for the 2027 ISASF Worlds in Orlando this year, and preparation is already underway.

“To help us out, we’ve had a choreographer from London come down,” Vanessa told the Reporter.

“He runs IMD, who have been on Britain’s Got Talent, and he has set the routines for all three of our elite hip-hop teams.

“He came in for a 10-hour day of training, and as intense as it was, it was great to give the kids that opportunity.

“After hour five, our brains were a bit scrambled, but we got there, and the routines are incredible.

“We’re really excited to get them out there and represent Tameside this summer.”
