Ashton Albion Boxing Club is appealing to the local community to help raise £7,000 towards the redevelopment of its new premises.
Having been based at Penny Meadow in Ashton for 25 years, the club moved into a new venue at the start of 2019 and his since encountered a number of problems, with a new electricity supply amongst the list of improvements needed to make the facility hospitable.
But the coronavirus outbreak has slowed down proceedings and the club still needs £7,000 to complete the makeover.
Thanks to the generosity of Active Tameside, the club has been housed at ITrain in Dukinfield.
Head coach Wayne Heywood says the complications have resulted in the club losing 30 of its members.
We spoke to him about the latest developments, ideas for fundraising, and how the Tameside Sport Network has helped him out.
Tuesday night saw Ashton United pass up on the chance to set up an all-Ashton Manchester Premier Cup Final, with Tameside neighbours Droylsden picking up a shock semi-final victory at Hurst Cross.
Following their loss at home to Real Madrid last week, knocking them out of the Champions League, Manchester City faced arguably a tougher test against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday.
