Lilywhites winless in four

BetVictor North West: Mossley 0-2 Dunston

A very poor first half performance saw Mossley two goals behind at the break and a second half red card left the Lilywhites with an insurmountable mountain to climb after the break.

The Mossley line up showed one change from the Trafford game with Godwin Abadaki finally making his first start of the season in place of the unavailable Simon Lenighan.

Dunston, were a typical north eastern side in that their appetite for hard work never diminished and they dominated a first half that saw Mossley struggle to create anything cohesive at all in possibly the worst 45 minute performance witnessed at Seel Park for some time.

Dunston’s 8th minute opener was a powerful 20 yard shot by Michael Pearson that flew between Josh Ollerenshaw’s outstretched arms and into the centre roof of the net.

Littered with mistakes and miscommunications, Mossley could make no headway and the visitors bagged a second goal from the penalty spot on 28 minutes after a calamitous passage of play. Ollerenshaw and Declan Evans got in a muddle as they came together with a Dunston forward at Evans’ shoulder. It ended with Ollerenshaw losing control of the ball and upending the
Dunston player. Craig Scott scored the penalty.

Mossley’s only effort on goal in the entire half saw Ryan Brooke fire a speculative effort over the bar.

A change of shape for the second half saw Jes Uchegbulam replace Kieran Nolan but hopes of a speedy revival were dashed when Ben Halfacre’s second hand ball yellow card saw him dismissed by what was in truth an overly zealous referee.

Mossley then had their best spell of the game and kept Dunston pinned back for a good length of time but despite playing plenty of ball into the danger area the Lilywhites were unable to trouble visitors keeper Dryden and in the last quarter it was Dunston who came closest to scoring again as they missed several good chances.
