Lilywhites land £10,000 bursary

Builders’ merchant Buildbase has awarded £10,000 worth of building materials to Mossley AFC. 

Following the club’s application to the Buildbase Non-league Club Renovation programme, Mossley AFC, along with nine other clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Vase competitions, will be awarded building materials to renovate its facilities. 

Judges from Buildbase and the FA chose Mossley AFC as one of the ten winners because of the great benefit the project would have on the club as well as its local community. 

Mossley AFC will use the bursary to build a toilet block for use by fans on matchdays and for community events.

Nathan Harris, social media officer at Mossley AFC explained: “As the club has grown in both fans and use for community projects we are in desperate need of increasing the number of toilets to make the club more accessible. 

“Over the last two years we have put the club at the heart of the community. As part of this mission, we currently hold at least two major community events through the year, one being an annual fireworks night and the other our community whit Friday brass band contest. Currently we only have two male and two female toilets, which are challenging as they limit attendance and cause queuing.

“Winning this competition means a lot. We can now build a toilet block in the open space we currently have behind the changing rooms, which can be used by the public on matchdays and for community events.” 

The local Stockport Buildbase branch will be supporting the club with information, advice and supplying the building products required for the project.

Martin Bull is Buildbase Procurement Director and was part of the judging panel. He said: “We had a huge response to our renovation competition this year. Mossley AFC did a fantastic job of explaining how the bursary would be used and the effect of that on the wider community as well as on their ability to run as a business. We look forward to seeing how the project plays out over the coming months.”
