Keeping fit for charity funds

Andrew Cornner from Glossop Military Fitness organised a fantastic charity event over the weekend in order to help raise funds for the Mummy’s Star Charity.

The event dubbed the ‘Fitathon’, was a 24-hour challenge running from 9am on Saturday (20 May) to 9am on Sunday (21 May), and involved 24, hour-long classes, each with a different theme, such as boxing, pilates and yoga.

The event was set up as this year marks the 10 year anniversary of both Glossop Military Fitness and the Mummy’s Star charity. Donations were made on the day, and through Andy’s justgiving page, and the £2000 target was smashed, with over £6000 raised for the charity.

Our very own CEO, Emma Marsh, took part in the event to help raise funds, and managed to complete eight hours’ worth of exercise with her son Finley. Emma said, “It was very tough but I enjoyed it, and it’s all for a good cause”.

The Charity the money will be going to, Mummy’s Star, is a UK charity committed to supporting pregnancy through cancer and beyond, and is the only charity of its kind in the UK and Ireland. Your donations mean that women diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or within a year of birth are able to reach Mummy’s Star and get the specialised support they offer. They help families to meet others in a similar position, offer small grants to relieve some financial burden, give support to partners and the wider family, promote awareness and support research. The justgiving page is still taking donations, just search ‘Glossop Military Fitness 24 hour Fitathon’ on the justgiving website to donate.
