Injured Croft goes back to Wakefield

Hit by numerous injury setbacks since hooker Matty Wilkinson broke a leg in pre-season training, Oldham Rugby League Club has suffered another blow with the loss of on-loan centre Jack Croft.

The young Wakefield Trinity player scored the winning try against Halifax in his first game for Roughyeds this season, but suffered a knee injury in the later stages of the next game against Whitehaven .

He has since had a scan which has confirmed anterior cruciate ligament damage.

"He is going to be out for a considerable time," said Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton, who revealed that 20-year-old Croft had now been transferred back to Wakefield, his full-time employers, and was waiting to see a specialist knee surgeon.

He came on loan for the full season, although the agreement allowed for Wakefield to call him back at any time.

Front-row forward Liam Kirk, hurt against Whitehaven in the first minute, is still going through RFL protocols covering players who suffer head injuries, but there is better news of second-row man Danny Langtree, who damaged a wrist in the same game.

There was good news following an x-ray -- no break -- and he was able to train as usual on Tuesday night.

Scrum-half David Hewitt missed the defeat by Whitehaven with a dead leg received against Halifax, but he trained on Tuesday and he might be okay for the clash at Featherstone on Monday night (8pm) so long as he doesn't suffer a reaction.

Centre Ben Heaton, who damaged an ankle injury at Batley in mid-April, and has since missed three games, is fit again and that's more good news.

The next game is on Monday night (8pm) at Featherstone, whose only defeat so far this season was a Challenge Cup loss to Super League club Hull FC.

The game has been put back from Sunday to Monday evening to allow Featherstone to admit at least some of their fans into the ground, but away fans are not allowed and there is no facility in this one for Our League streaming.

The best Oldham fans can do is go on to the Rovers website and listen to an audio broadcast.
