Hyde tiptoe towards title after toppling Timperley

Hyde extended their lead at the top of the Cheshire County Cricket League with a comfortable win at Timperley.

Batting first, the hosts made a respectable 201 before Rohit Acharya outfoxed Callum Yates for the host’s final wicket, giving the all-rounder figures of 4-30 as he tore through the tail.

In reply, Hyde got off to a shaky start, with opener Tom Partridge and new Lancashire pro Kesh Fonseka only scoring 24 runs between them.

However, Rian Maisuria carried his bat for 75, with wicket keeper Adam Worrall crashing 62 from just 67 balls, including 9 boundaries, to help steady any nerves.

Charlie Harris took up the mantle after Worrall fell to Chris Page, thwacking a rapid 31 from 34 balls before he succumbed to an lbw off Jonathan Fowler.

With 20 points secured, Hyde had Chester Broughton Hall to thank for turning a good day into a great one.

After winning the toss, they chose to bat first at 2nd placed Nantwich, rattling off 302-9 in 50 overs. Noah Vickery and Wayne Goodwin scored 72 and 70, respectively.

Nantwich were never in the chase, only mustering 206 runs before being dismissed for their second defeat in three weeks.

The results move Hyde 24 points ahead of Nantwich, with the two sides meeting in a potential title decider on August 31.
