Hyde have to settle for a point at Matlock

BetVictor Premier Division: Matlock Town 1-1 Hyde United

On an afternoon where fitting tributes were paid to Jordan Sinnott, the two sides shared the points after a 1-1 draw at the Proctor Cars Stadium.

The hosts had the first chance when Bramhall cut inside onto his favoured right foot but his shot curled wide of the post.

Shortly after Hyde took the lead when Ndiaye was fouled roughly 30 yards from goal. Tongue stepped up and fired his free kick low and hard at Stewart who parried the ball into the path of Tom Pratt who made no mistake in finding goal.

Brownhill received his first booking of the game as he pulled the lively Crouz down as he was rushing towards goal. The aforementioned winger could have put Matlock level a matter of moments later but he blazed a volley over the bar inside the box.

Just before half time the Tigers broke away 2 v 1 from a Matlock corner as Sutherland won the ball on halfway, Ndiayes' pass for the run of Lane looked perfect with the pitch bobbly, the ball ran away from Lane and he stumbled before the ball went for a throw in.

Hyde’s aim for three points was made tougher five minutes after the restart as Brownhill was cautioned for the second time after tripping Crouz just outside the area.

After struggling in the moments after when Crouz and Chilaka clattered shots from distance against the bar, the Tigers recovered well after changing formation. This limited Matlock to few chances and Allinson rarely had much to do. A good point on the road given the circumstances, setting it up nicely for the Scarborough game on Saturday.

Following the game, manager Dave McGurk said: "I thought the first half we were excellent and we wasted our opportunities in the second half. I was really worried about Kyle Brownhill on that yellow card as there were a couple of fouls where I thought he could’ve been sent off but I didn’t have the options to change the team and take him off as I would’ve done if the options were there. He got sent off and it cost us, but if there’s one who’s got a bit of credit with me it's him as he’s been different class this year so he’s a strong boy and he will be back in two weeks.

"My half-time talk was that we knew we would have to defend the box with the wind and I’d backed us to do that, but then we got a man sent off and it's hard.

"We knew we were going to be under the cosh so let's take it as a point gained and we move onto the next game."
