Hyde halted by Whitby

NPL Premier Division: Whitby Town 1-0 Hyde United

Hyde United were unable to build on their previous 1-0 victory over Stafford Rangers and instead fell to a 1-0 defeat at Whitby Town.

The Tigers entered the game feeling replenished following a 10 day rest due to their elimination from the FA Cup, but they were unable to take advantage of the fresh legs and returned from the east coast empty handed.

Liam Cooke's decisive goal in the 39th minute was enough to separate the sides on the afternoon. The midfielder capitalised on a loose ball 20 years from goal and hit an instinctive effort which nestled in the bottom left corner, leaving goalkeeper Joe Green grasping at thin air.

The Tigers did have an opportunity to equalise shortly after in half-time break, however Bailey-Jones' cross was glanced just wide by Tom Pratt.

And they were denied what looked to be a golden chance in the 89th minute, but as Liam Hardy darted through on goal Whitby defender Jameel Ible made a last ditch challenge before the striker could get his shot off.

The result leaves Jim Gannon's side 12th in the table ahead of the visit of bottom club Morpeth Town to Ewen Fields on Tuesday night.
