Hyde claim back-to-back victories

BetVictor Premier Division: Stafford Rangers 1-3 Hyde United

Hyde United have moved within three points of the playoffs after securing a 3-1 victory at bottom club Stafford Rangers.

The Tigers were high on confidence following the previous weekend's 4-1 win against Brighouse Town, and they took an early lead in the midlands thanks to Chris Sharp's effort in the 13th minute. Dan Turner took advantage of some poor Stafford defending and played a ball to Sharp, who slotted into the bottom corner. However Stafford, who have only won once this season, levelled matters in the 22nd minute through Jack Sheratt.

Dave McGurk's side were the better team in the clash but were left frustrated for large periods of the game. However, their efforts were finally rewarded in the 53rd minute when Paddy Lane fired an effort into the top corner to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.

And Liam Tongue grabbed a third with ten minutes left to wrap things up. The former Stalybridge Celtic man curling in a free-kick from just outside the box.

The Tigers return to league action on Saturday with a home clash against Witton Albion, who are currently one place and one point above them. When the two sides met earlier this season, Witton ran out 2-0 winners.
